Virginia's bio on Psychology Today
Virginia Inge Gordon has a passion for working with teenagers and their parents, and having over 13 years’ worth of experience to prove it. Majoring in Psychology at the University of Alabama, Virginia took part in psychologist/professor driven youth empowerment initiatives as a college student where she mentored high school students, and sought to equip them with the tools they needed to make a difference in their community. Virginia continued on after college founding her own youth empowerment program for middle school and high school students in Bayou La Batre, Alabama called Bayou HOPE of Boat People SOS. Here she facilitated leadership groups who became the change they wanted to see, i.e. beautifying parks by gaining approval of the City Council, launching a Bullying Prevention campaign with the help of Mobile District Attorney Ashley Rich, and putting on a community-wide carnival to boost moral of a town hit hard by natural disasters (including Katrina). Virginia went on to gain her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, where she then became qualified to be a counselor for adolescents struggling with addiction, mental health problems, and family troubles. With now over 9 years as a licensed counselor, she has become passionate about reaching people of all ages who may not yet feel comfortable obtaining counseling or reaching out for help. Virginia has found her purpose in life to be sharing the love of God with people in need, and she has discovered strength through vulnerability and connection.
